                                                                                                                           King

The sire ranked 5th in the pedigrees of rodeo horses is the stallion King.

King passed on his athletic ability and his great disposition to his offspring and they were found to be very rideable and trainable.  His offspring were in great demand for reining and cutting horses.

He was a leading broodmare sire and has sired several important sons.

King appears 77 times in the pedigrees of the 176 rodeo horses. (30%)

His greatest influence is in the pedigrees of heeling and tie-down horses.

He is the 3rd ranked sire in tie-down horses (in 51% of the horses) and 5th in heeling horses (in 50%).  He is placed 9th in heading horses (21%) but in steer wrestling and barrel horses he ranks 10th (17%) and 20th  (11%) respectively.

He has three notable sons in the pedigrees of rodeo champions.

His most important son in this group is Poco Bueno, being present 60 times in the pedigrees. Of the
other two sons, Royal King is found 14 times and Hank H is present a total of 12 times.

Other important sons include King Glo and Jess Hank.

Poco Bueno is found 60 times in the database in 46 competition horses.

His line is most effective in heeling horses being present in 50% of heeling horses. Next are tie-down horses at 37%, and heading horses at 27%. Less importance is found in steer wrestling horses at 13% of the competition horses and barrel horses at 7%.

King’s best daughter was Gay Widow who, when bred to Three Bars, produced the stallion Gay Bar King. Her greatest contibution appears to be in heeling and tie-down horses.

By far, the most productive lines that crossed with King were those of Three Bars and Leo. Top Deck crosses were a distant third.

Gay Bar King  appears 11 times in the database, in 10 competition horses including Luke, Sic’em and  2012 AQHA/PRCA Heeling Horse of the Year, Cave Man, ridden by Jade Corkill.

Most of Gay Bar King’s influence in the test horses seems to be through his daughters. Most notable are Gay Bar Dixie (dam of Doc o Dynamite) and Gay Bar Moon (dam of Zann Parr Express).
